Practice Fairway Bunker Completion
On Monday we were able to complete construction of the practice fairway bunker. We are very pleased with the end result.
Hope to have the bunker open for practice next week.
What was the forward practice tee is now rough except for the portion next to the practice bunker which will become a teeing area to practice short shots. Jim Larkin has some great ideas planned for this area. This particular teeing area will be available for use in several weeks.

Practice Fairway Bunker Construction
The staff has done an amazing job this week in constructing a practice fairway bunker in front of the driving range tee along the left side fence line. Shaping and drainage are complete. We will add sand and sod on Monday while the course is closed providing us easier access to this area without golfers on the range.
The turf on the entire lower tee will be removed and replaced with primary rough except for the portion directly behind the new practice bunker which will remain a tee and used to practice one's short game. Jim Larkin and staff have planned a great way to make the most of your short game practice in this area.
The following are pictures with short descriptions of the construction process to date:

Enkamat and Bunker Sand
Just in front of the tees on #1 where carts enter the fairway we installed material called Enkamat (Enkamat Website)
Under the matting is newly planted Turf Type Tall Fescue seed. The goal is for the turf to grow up through the porous Enkamat. Once fully grown the Enkamat will cover the crown portion of the plant near the soil surface protecting it from excessive wear. No guarantee it will work but it is worth a try.
Also, we have now added sand to 49 bunkers throughout the course using over 25 tons of sand. We will finish adding sand to the bunkers that need it next week.

Additional Bunker Sand
This week we have added almost 23 tons of sand to 27 bunkers throughout the course. We have another 23 tons arriving Friday morning to continue adding sand to bunkers that need it.
Just a reminder, the fresh sand is soft and will not firm up until we get some rains. For now, enjoy the firm and fast conditions that the recent dry weather has allowed.
