Par Three Tee Renovation and Expansion

During the Winter shutdown of 2013 we are expanding and renovating the blue tees on holes #6 and #13 and the black tee on #16. We have again contracted McDonald and Sons Golf Course Builders (http://www.mcdonaldgolfinc.com/construction/) to help with the heavy lifting of the project.

So far the weather has not cooperated as it did last year. But we are making progress.

Starting off we are expanding #6/#13 blue tees both to the front and the back. In order to do this we are building a retaining wall in front of the existing tees.

First the existing field rock was removed.

This stone is stored to be used later. Next a footer is dug in front of the tee and 75 pound blocks are laid over base material.

The reason for the retaining wall is so the tee stays in place without sloughing off in front. This retaining wall when complete will be faced with the stone that was removed so it will not be seen. But the function of this wall will remain intact meaning that material can be back filled behind this wall to be used for teeing space without worry of the tee sliding.

Winter Cart Path Only

During the Winter months we try and stay on the cart paths as much as possible. Only in rare instances we will allow carts on the turf. This is because any snow melt or rain that has occurred does not move through the soil profile as fast during cold weather. The ground is generally frozen beneath the surface and therefore does not allow water to percolate through.

Also, any damage caused by cart traffic is not going to be repaired until sometime in the Spring due to the lack of plant growth.

Snowcover and Winter Work

While driving into the club recently to enjoy the restaurant, purchase items in the golf shop or practice in the indoor facility you may have noticed the first fairway is fairly snow free.

However, upon entering the further reaches of the golf course we find areas like this on #7 green which are still snow covered.

While waiting for the snow to melt we stay busy indoors repairing, painting and rejuvenating course accessories.
Trash can lids are sanded and painted.

Shoe scrubbers are also sanded and painted.

We will also work on repairing ball washers. So there is plenty to do even when we cannot get outside!
